In today’s fast-paced and efficiency-driven environments, Business Analysts are expected to deliver value faster, reduce waste, and enable continuous improvement across processes and teams. This session, Lean Techniques for Business Analysts, explores how Lean principles and selected Lean Six Sigma concepts can be practically applied within the BA role to improve outcomes, enhance collaboration, and drive measurable business value.
Participants will be introduced to core Lean tools and the concept of the Lean Team, along with foundational ideas from Lean and Six Sigma including waste reduction, process variation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement. The session will bridge theory and practice, demonstrating how these techniques can be integrated into requirements gathering, stakeholder engagement, process modeling, backlog refinement, and solution validation.
Key Learnings
At the end of the session, participants would be able to
- Apply Lean principles and tools (Poka-Yoke, 5S, Gemba, and PDCA) to improve business analysis practices and reduce waste in projects and processes.
- Develop clear and outcome-focused problem statements that accurately define business needs and enable effective root cause analysis.
- Use PDCA cycles and continuous improvement techniques to test, validate, and refine requirements and solutions in iterative environments.
- Identify opportunities to build quality into processes by fostering Lean team collaboration and embedding mistake-proofing approaches early in the solution lifecycle
Attendees will leave with practical techniques they can immediately apply to improve clarity, quality, and efficiency in their projects while strengthening their role as strategic value enablers.
